1/4 year

Over 3 months have passed since I made an entry here. Clearly I overestamated my blogging ability. Time to come up with something to write about. Thus, the current position of my interests:

Music: Detroit Cobras, The Dirtbombs, Ratatat, Justice

Last: Tristram Shandy - very good stuff. Steve Coogan is like Julie Roberts in that he can only really play himself and he has a massive mouth. He is however, likable and funny. Good for him.
Next: Either Simpsons or Bourne Ultimatum. Not much sense in pretending there's a less blockbuster-scale movie currently in theaters that I really want to see.

Books: Debating at the moment. It's between re-reading the 6th potter book, picking up the 7th, and giving fiction a rest and taking up "The Aquatic Ape" as recomended by my brother.

Games: Odin Sphere (still, kind of) Brave Story (PSP) and Guitar Hero as always. Anticipation for Rock Band increases a little each week.

Comics: Invincible, BPRD: Killing Ground, Conan (current Dark Horse run as well as the Roy Thomas reprints)

Ok that's enough for now. Better not get into anything else - must pace myself here you know.

The Rediculous Demands of President Pepler

More pretty pics that James asked for. First, his campaign poster. It's a prime example of why just because I don't wanna give you what you ask for doesn't mean you won't get what you want. This is pretty far off from what he asked for, but he still got elected U of S-SA president. which I'm sure he had no real role in.

The second is for his "Women and Gender Studies: Cyber Punk Film" class. Yeah, I guess that's an actual class. Anyways, his report was on female architypes and body types in cyborg characters. so he wanted me to draw QUOTE: "a big fat cyborg chick." I swear if that guy hated women any more, he'd be gay. I mean...

Anyways, both were crazy-fun to draw.

Entries in the 300 thread on the Drawingboard; Therapy

Film is an unappreciated art these days. I don't mean no one watches movies, but that people watch movies for the wrong reasons.

Example: going to 300 and expecting an oscar-worthy historical epic. My film taste is more broad lately, and I think I'm better for it. There's the socially conscious documentaries you see to educate yourself on world/historic situations, there's the arthouse films that explore life and it's many facettes' corollaries withing the human condition. Then there's the occasional blockbuster that rises just enough about the typical level of cattle feed to admit you enjoyed it. You don't go to be challenged, or to see fine character portrayal. You go for the glory of dudes is leather tighty-whiteys whom are handed swords and an endless supply of stuntmen to evicerate. It's not about lowering your expectations, it's about accepting that once in a while you need violent, visceral eye candy to pull you out of office life, if only for 110 minutes. And I think the 7 guys I talked into ditching work to see it with me would agree. I just hope it's not the reason Dan got fired.

If so, my bad.

Did a couple for the Drawingboard's 300 thread...

For the sake of Blogging.

Well just shy of 2 months isn't so bad. That's what - 1/6th of a year? It's still more frequent than I thought I'd be making entries.

Well, fresh off a break-up and not yet ready to talk about it, I will write about other stuff. How about the world's problems? Too much war - stop fighting already. Famine's still around? How about we stop over-processing the ass-loads of meat that fastfood companies utilize and ship it somewhere else? Oppressive governments and facist regimes lorded over populations of nations - get a gun and shoot anyone who tells you you can't do something. You have my permission. Yeah we are still facing diseases like Cancer, AIDs, and even smallpox ain't wiped out like they said it was. Cure them already.

There. I just solved all the world's problems. That was a good 5 minute distraction.

I did another piece on keeping with a jam on the drawingboard. Considering I've never really even tried drawing hellboy, I don't wee why I'd feel like I could do up my own hellgirl. But what the fuck.

It occurs to me that as great as message boards are for exchanging ideas and inspiration, blogs should be at least as usefull in such respects. But I'm starting to wonder exactly how to get that kind of communication rolling. Lots of other artists use a blogsite, but a lot of them also seem to be connected and I'm not sure how to get in on that. I figure it's about time I started reaching out to other such fancy-pants drawing ilk as myself to get some networking going. At the very least I can get pointed to one or two not-entirely-shitty band's myspace pages for something to listen to while I work.
